JALT 2022 – Oxford Digital Tools

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to a presentation that I am interested in. I’ve been usually busy preparing for my presentations in previous conferences. This time, since I am just attending and facilitating a forum, I can focus more on gaining knowledge from presentations such as this one.

Today, a representative of Oxford University Press, Mr. Peacock, presented some digital tools developed as a supplement to the textbooks published by Oxford University Press for English Learning. This was a step-up from the old materials that I’ve used in the past two years. It definitely cuts down preparation time for teachers so that they can focus on preparing how they can make the class more engaging.

I wonder if our own UP Press can develop digital tools like this for Filipino-made textbook materials. However, I think UPOU can easily do something like this especially now that H5P is available. I’ve been creating iBooks for my classes that seem to have the same feature set as the digital tools and e-books presented today. My students have already been enjoying them and I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback about these iBooks. I have so much motivation to create iBooks for our courses. My only issue is time.

I wonder if materials can be easily plugged in to a third-party learning management system like Moodle or Canvas.

They are giving us a 90-day free trial. Looking forward to it!
